Here are a few reminders as the six weeks closes. Please read those reminders that pertain to your student or that you may have questions about.
1. Parent Conferences Parents, please schedule all parent conferences through myself or the front office. If you show up in the classroom without having an appointment, I will send you to the front office to make one. You also may not be on campus without having signed in and receiving a yellow visitors badge in the front office. This is to ensure the safety of your students as we do have an open campus. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Late Work Policy (per the Classroom Expectations): "Late work will be accepted the day after the original due date; however, the highest grade possible is a 70. A further ten (10) points will be subtracted from your grade each day late. “Late grades” are better than zeros. Zeros do not disappear at the end of the six weeks. I do not drop low grades. Please check parent connection to note dates of homework, upcoming quizzes and tests and, of course, grades. You will only have 5 maximum days to turn in late work. After that point, assignments will not be accepted." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Progress Reports: Reports will be given out in the middle of each grading period (the beginning of the 4th week of each grading period). Signed progress reports of 74 & below are due back within 2 days or parents will be contacted by e-mail/phone/mail. ►I will hold the student accountable for informing parents/guardians of any/all progress reports. Students and parents have limitless access to Northside’s Online Parent Connection (www.nisd.net/parentconnection/), so daily updates of academic history and progress is possible. (Individual/Class averages are posted AND CURRENT daily.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Students with a 504 Plan/ IEP Accommodations: I keep an Excel spreadsheet of all 504 Plans and IEP Accommodations. I can assure you that your student receives their accommodations in the classroom on a day to day basis. In the event that I forget to give a copy of class notes, or an extra 24 hours for an assignment, I have asked your student to simply remind me so that I can correct my mistake. Please always feel free to contact me with questions or concerns via phone/email. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Grading Calculations: Grades: Daily and quiz grades will = 50% of your grade / Test grades will = 50% of your grade (DISTRICT POLICY) During any grading period, you will usually have more daily grades than test grades. On some days and/or lab research days, your class participation, or lack of it, may equal a daily grade. Special projects will count as at least one test grade, and in some cases, two test grades. Grades are based upon a 100-point scale. I do not calculate the grades in the grade book. It is a district grade book program that holds your students grades and calculates the averages. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. Failure Reflection: You will see an assignment titled "Failure Reflection" in the grade book. This assignment is only given to students who fail for a six weeks. It is a letter they must write to reflect on why they failed and how they can work to earn the grade they desire for the next six weeks. *If your student did not earn a failing grade for a six weeks you will see "Exc" on Parent Connection. This means they were not required to do the assignment, and it will not count for or against their grade. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Close of the Six Weeks: I will not be accepting late work from the first four weeks of the six weeks as this week comes to a close. Please see the above late work policy from the Classroom Expectations. If there has been an extenuating circumstance regarding absences, this should have been discussed at the time of the absence. Please call me if there are questions or concerns. I will be calling each parent of the students who earned a failing grade for the second six weeks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Report Cards: Friday, November 21, 2014 Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break! And as always, GO PANTHERS!
